The biography of Eduardo Zamacois Zabala (1841 - 1871)
Eduardo Zamacois Zabala (1841 - 1871) was a Spanish painter born in Bilbao. He began his artistic training alongside the painter José Balaca. He was later moved to Madrid in 1859 to continue his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. In 1860 he studied in Paris with Ernest Meissonier.
In 1866 he met the painter Mariano Fortuny, and they become a great friends. In 1870 Zabala won the Gold Room Officer for the painting “The education of a prince”. Shortly thereafter, as a result of the Franco-Prussian War left France to settle Madrid, where he died shortly afterwards at the age of 29 years.
